MPS faculty Persis Forster

Persis Forster

PERSIS FORSTER established Miss Persis Studio of Dance in 1954. A graduate of UT Austin with a BFA in Radio/TV, she has a varied background in dance and theatre which includes performing, directing, choreography and teaching in all levels of dance and musical theatre. She has lived in Arlington with her husband, Jerry, for over 57 years.  As a professional actress, Ms. Forster has appeared in leading principal roles at Casa Manana, Lyric Theatre in Oklahoma City, Carousel Dinner Theater in Ohio, Lyric Theatre in Irving, Theatre Arlington, Gown Town Theatre and Garland Summer Musicals.

  • Past honors include the Chamber of Commerce Citation for Service Award, the Friend of Youth Award and the Distinguished Alumnus Award from UTA.  She was honored with the Women’s Legacy Award for Arts in Tarrant County in 1999 and with the Dallas Dance Council’s “Texas Tap Legend” award in May, 2006.
  • She is a Past President of the Texas Association Teachers of Dancing and the UTA Alumni Association.
  • Ms. Forster taught in the UTA Drama Department for eighteen and a half years.
  • Ms. Forster founded Dance Theatre of Arlington in 1981 and is currently working with the DTA Community Outreach program, “I Am”, at Berry Elementary School.

MPS faculty Persis Ann Forster

Persis Ann Forster

PERSIS ANN FORSTER, a graduate of UTA with a BA in Radio/TV, has been teaching with her mother for over 35 years. She is a professional actress, singer, choreographer, and she resides in Arlington with her husband, Steve Burdick, who assists in our Cotillion classes.

  • She performed leading roles at Theatre Arlington, Gown Town Theatre, Casa Manana, North Shore Music Theatre outside of Boston, and Lyric Theatre in Oklahoma City.
  • Other performances include industrial productions for Incredible Productions and Six Flags Show Productions, where she has also served as director/choreographer of the Crazy Horse Saloon.
  • Ms. Forster teaches at national dance camps and show choir workshops and is President of Texas Association of Teachers of Dancing.
  • She is currently DTA Artistic Director over a performing company of 26 dancers which performs around the Metroplex year-round.

MPS faculty Jackie Troup Miller

Jackie Troup Miller

JACKIE TROUP MILLER, guest artist, began her professional career in Hollywood after being auditioned by Bill Robinson.  She was contracted by Universal Studios and then toured with such big bands as Tommy Dorsey, Gene Krups and Frankie Masters.  Ms. Miller, a choreographer,dancer, teacher, has taught for  all the national dance associations in the U. S.

MPS faculty Bettie Roeber

Bettie Jo Roeber

BETTIE JO ROEBER, who grew up at MPS and was a student teacher for several years, is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a degree in Fine Arts/Ballet. She was a member of the Fort Worth Ballet and the Dallas Ballet after graduating from Arlington High School. Ms. Roeber performed professionally at Six Flags Over Texas and for Sky Chefs “Tent Troubador” Show, which traveled throughout the United States and Korea. Ms. Roeber also had her own studio on Air Force Bases in the United States and Germany.

MPS faculty Jean Crawford

Jean Crawford

JEAN CRAWFORD returned in 2007 to MPS after a long and busy absence. She began dancing and ice skating at a young age and was invited to travel with the Ice Capades show. While raising her family in Arlington,  Jean taught for Miss Persis before taking off to pursue ice hockey and competitive ice skating. She has returned to one of her great loves – teaching tap to our youngest dancers.

Chloe Cannella


CHLOE CANNELLA
, a graduate from Pantego Christian Academy, now attends Dallas Baptist University where she is majoring in sports management. She has been dancing 16 years and is on the DBU Patriette dance team! She danced at Miss Persis Studio for 7 years, and she continues to come and assist the classes she once attended as a student.

Anne Bowling

ANNE BOWLING started training at Harlingen Ballet Center in Harlingen, Texas.  As a member of Harlingen Concert Ballet Company, Anne performed many classical ballets with the Rio Grande Valley Symphony Orchestra.  Her dance education continued at the University of North Texas where she graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts and Science Degree in Dance.  While at North Texas, she was awarded a dance scholarship and a recipient of a Theatre Arts Award from the Dean.  Anne was also a principal dancer and soloist with Denton Civic Ballet for several years.  Upon graduation, Anne moved to California teaching at several studios and eventually founded Huntington Beach Ballet Company serving as Artistic Director there for several years before moving back to Texas.  In McAllen, Texas she was the Studio Director of Melba’s School of Dance and the Artistic Director for McAllen Dance Theatre for twelve years.  Anne then became the Drill Team Assistant at Hebron High School where she has taught dance classes for the last eight years.  Anne has been a member of Texas Association Teacher’s of Dancing for sixteen years and currently serves on the Board of Directors as the Secretary.  Anne has also been on staff with Miss Persis Studio of Dance and Performing Arts the last four years teaching jazz and ballet.  The greatest joys in Anne’s life are her husband, Bill of 25 years and their two children Blake and Holly.

Kelly Joeckel

Kelly Joeckel

KELLY JOECKEL , an Arlington High School graduate comes home to MPS after graduating Texas Tech University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After working 7 years at Oncor, she quit her job to work full time at the studio. She is a current member of Texas Association Teacher’s of Dancing and lives in Dallas with her husband, David and her two dogs, Stella and Sadie.

Callie Cunningham

CALLIE CUNNINGHAM, a Martin High School graduate, returns to MPS to teach tap, ballet and jazz. After teaching during her college years at Texas A&M University, she is working on a Master’s degree in Communicative Sciences and Disorders at the University of Texas in Dallas.

Chelsea Wong

Chelsea Wong

CHELSEA WONG, graduated from Lamar High School in 2015. She had the honor of being 1st lieutenant of the Vi-Queens her senior year. She is currently attending TCU, seeking a major in Graphic Design and a minor in Business. Chelsea is employed by Eclipse Entertainment and has performed at the State Fair of Texas, Party Fest of Dallas and Whiskey Fest.

Aurora Rodriguez

AURORA RODRIGUEZ, our receptionist/secretary, has been involved with the studio for many years and is very active in Dance Theatre of Arlington. She spends her spare time teaching Spanish at many area schools. Her husband, Armando, her three girls and her grandchildren give her great joy.
